John Sharp leading BSi BCM Task Group Issued June 2009 John Sharp is leading a task group to develop a BSI Published Document (PD) on the Human Aspects of BCM, BS25111. The document will provide help and advice to enable organisations to recognise and plan for the impact of disruptive events on people. The Task Group is one of several operating under the umbrella of the BS25999 Technical Committee.

Business Continuity Services Ltd has appointed industry expert John Sharp
to be a senior industry advisor. John
Sharp will provide high level advice and counsel to ICM, with his
experience as previous head of the Business Continuity Institute and a
director of the Continuity Forum giving the firm peerless knowledge and
acumen on all aspects of business continuity planning across industry and
the public sector. John
has been a key member of the Chartered Management Institute’s team,
undertaking definitive research into BCM awareness across the UK.
He was a member of the Technical Committee that produced BCM
standard BS 25999, as well as advising on the guidance for the UK Civil
Contingencies Act. Throughout
his career John has worked closely with government, regulators, the police
and security organisations to ensure a uniformity in approaches to BCM,
and most recently his work as a member of both the London Resilience
Business Team and Metropolitan Police BCM Board have seen him advising at

Sharp Moving On

three and a half years John Sharp is stepping down as Policy and
Development Director of Continuity Forum to pursue other interests in the
BCM arena through Kiln House Associates Ltd.
During the period he has been supporting Continuity Forum John has
worked on several major initiatives as well as presenting on behalf of the
Forum at events throughout the UK. John
said, “The time is right both for Continuity Forum and myself for me to
move on. The new BCM Standard
BS25999 has been published and the bulk of the work associated with the
Civil Contingencies Act is completed. Whilst I have enjoyed the period I
have spent with Continuity Forum I have become interested and more
involved in the delivery of BCM advice and training to organisations
directly”. His clients
include a major government department, an international pharmaceutical
company and Category 1 responders in the UK.
He is an Associate Course Director at the government’s Emergency
Planning College where he assists in the delivery of BCM courses. John
Sharp is the author of The Route Map to Business Continuity Management
which provides a guide to meeting the requirements of BS25999 and was
published by British Standards (BSI) in December 2007.
